Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. On this Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024 and everyday we salute them for their sacrifice by being of service to those who remain.

What is a Veteran?

"Veteran" means a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.
A minimum service requirement exists. Service members must have served a minimum of 24 months of active duty to be considered a veteran.

If the service member becomes disabled because of their time in the service, there is no minimum length of service to qualify for VA benefits.

A veteran may be classified as a ''disabled veteran,'' ''recently separated veteran,'' ''active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran,'' or ''Armed Forces service medal veteran. '' active duty* in the U.S. Military.
